What is That Darn Dog doing about Covid-19?
First, we wanted to take a moment to thank you for the patience, love and understanding that you have displayed for That Darn Dog as we navigate the balance of necessary safety precautions and maintaining our high standard for excellent quality dog training. We would like to inform you that resuming your training sessions is optional at this point in time. If you choose not to resume training at this time, your expiration date for your sessions will be extended accordingly.
Unfortunately, we may be limited in accepting new clients (puppies being the only exception as puppies obviously cannot wait for training). The clients who have already paid and are waiting for help due to covid will be scheduled to resume training first.
With that being said, we would like to outline what training will look like moving forward during COVID-19 so that you can make an informed decision on this matter.
At this time, the government of BC is encouraging zero-contact whenever possible. As such, all training that can be done via Skype/Zoom will continue to be performed in this manner to reduce unnecessary contact.
Additionally, improved ventilation is recommended to reduce transmission. As a result, any training that must be done in person will be done outdoors whenever possible. We will also be maintaining the recommended distance of 6 feet from the trainer and the client/s as much as possible and masks are mandatory for everyone for in person sessions.
It is mandatory that you cancel any training sessions if you show any signs of sickness, or have been around anyone with signs of sickness, especially any symptoms that are similar to COVID-19 symptoms. There will be NO cancellations fees during this time, and you will not be penalized for cancellations due to COVID-19 concerns. Similarly, our trainers will be cancelling sessions if they exhibit any symptoms or are in contact with anyone who has a potential or confirmed case of COVID-19.
Training will resume in a priority sequence. Puppies will be given the highest priority as the formative early years are crucial for training success. Next in priority will be high risk dogs such as those exhibiting signs of aggression and are therefor a danger to humans or other animals. All other dogs will be assessed on a case by case basis at the discretion of our trainers.
Upon arrival to a session, trainers will take a moment to sanitize their hands as well as any equipment to be used. This same procedure will be repeated at the conclusion of the session.
To further reduce transmission, trainers will be bringing their own leash and treats. It is imperative that you inform your trainer if your dog has any allergies.
Please be aware that your trainer MIGHT not be able to wear a mask or gloves as this can interfere with dog training, especially for some fear based dog training cases. In this case additional training maybe required. At this point in time, the clients must wear a mask and/or gloves during training sessions. This will be required to resume training due to government regulations regarding Covid-19.
If you choose to resume in person training you will be required to sign our COVID-19 Liability Waiver. Once the waiver is submitted and your training is scheduled, your trainer will contact you on the day of your session to confirm that all of the things that you attested to when signing the waiver are still accurate. The trainer will also verify that they are not exhibiting any symptoms of concern either. This is for your safety as well as that of the trainer and other clients.
If you already have paid training sessions then it is important that you respond to this via email ASAP to let us know if you would like to resume training. Sessions will be scheduled first by the previously mentioned priority sequence, followed by a first come, first served basis. The sooner you respond, the sooner you can expect to resume training.
We are looking forward to working with you again. We encourage you to let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
Stay safe out there, and be kind ALWAYS!
